Recommissioning (RCx) is a systematic and comprehensive process applied to an existing building to optimize the functional performance of interactive building systems, maximize dynamic systems efficiency as they operate together, and meet the owner’s current operational needs. Many buildings experience significant changes in occupancy and space utilization over time without any corresponding systems evaluations or modifications. This can result in ongoing concerns including comfort issues, air quality issues, increased maintenance costs, and excessive energy use. These conditions may even be present in well maintained older buildings and newer buildings if individual equipment is not dynamically calibrated for optimal functional performance as part of the interrelated building system as a whole.
